Daydreams and paintings...
I'm curled up on the couch minding my business while Melodious and Vicki are out running errands at the store when Jethro decides to lumber over to check on me AGAIN. Seems he's a very protective dog and likes to make sure I'm still breathing so we've been chuffing and puffing breaths at each other like Morse code (silly grin).
I'm still a bit under the weather so I've been getting twice as many pooch-checkups from my gorgeous doggy partners in crime. Melody has four dogs and a funny toddler to keep me grinning like a fool during my stay. Victoria is not quite two and a real trip who gives us all a run for our money. The pets all kow tow to the little minion princess but I think Jethro is my fave pet because he has a quiet, understated way of making you feel really safe just from having him around. He's very gentle with Victoria and lets Tori do what ever she wants. Psst... she wants to do a lot of things and frequently does, so watching them interact is a lot of fun.
Jethro is a big dog... Big may be an understatement... (LOL) He can make your eardrums vibrate in fascinating ways when he starts barking (and no one can step on the Botting grass unannounced - LOL). We're lounging in an L-shape formation with our heads on the arm rest of two couches staring off into space quietly daydreaming. We do that when we're not gazing soulfully into each others eyes having silent conversations by trading silly facial expressions.
We also kinda do that a lot...
What can I say? The dog gets me. Probably because I act like a three year old and he has extensive toddler experience (LOL). ;-)
I am supposed to be editing a chapter in my book but I can't seem to get this new musical composition out of my head. I'm in love with wandering through the Texas prairie and am itching to express that by painting with sound. I really want to go back into the guest bedroom and play with my Korg but I'm self-banished from turning on my M-Box because today is a paint day (sigh). Instead, I'm staring at hundreds of photographs in my collection wondering which ones to turn into posters and which ones to sketch. I'm looking at some of them in black and white and color... I do that a lot.
Somewhere between black and white versus color is where I usually find my ideas of what to illustrate and which medium to use when I start painting. I repeatedly draw the same subject matter until I memorize it. It's an artistic quirk I have... The more I draw something or someone the better I understand what I'm seeing in it/them. Learning about my subject fascinates and entertains me. Yup. It's true. I am very easily amused and I really enjoy the artistic process.
I want to set up on the patio later because I have to get my preliminary sketches in before I cut out for Florida at the end of the week. I'm having a marvelous time discovering Texas; so much so that we're formulating a Texas exhibition for the New York galleries next year. Today I'm studying everything I can regarding the Blackland Prairie while I am a guest of the Botting family. You guys are definitely going to be seeing several landscapes from the lake littering my blog over the winter.
There will be new portraits as well... working on 'em...
