It started when I tripped and tried not to fall... I wish I would have busted my a$$ instead of messing up Sean Connery

Carolyn Tann Starr 2011

It started when I tripped and tried not to fall... I wish I would have busted my a$$ instead messing up Sean Connery

I was doing some legal research on my laptop last night around 11PM and had a 500 page binder sitting open on the floor while I hole-punched documents from Lexis-Nexis. I decided to raid the kicthen for a snack, was heading back to my impromptu work corner when I stepped on my lace, tripped, tried not to fall, stepped down on the open binder and found myself impaled on a round curve of metal.

Stunned that I could actually be stabbed in the foot through my sneaker, I reacted very poorly...

Pain made me jerk my foot up because I was unaware that the metal was actually IN MY FOOT. The bad part? Instead of easing it out on the curve, I ripped it out by shaking the binder in a hopping panic.

Pages flew.

Blood flowed.

Shoe. Got. Ruined.

For those of you new to my blog I only own 5 pairs of shoes so this is a very significant statement (LOL).

While crawling down the hall to the bathroom my skin stretched uncomfortably tight as my foot got swollen with the speed of an S&M demon coming out to play. I accidentally knocked over my sketch of Sean Connery.

It got dented and dirty.

I. Got. Mad.

I tried to stand up to reach the medicine cabinet.

Fell. On. My. A$$.

I will not try to articulate my undignified sprawl from crash-landing in the bathroom. Lets just say my head had no business being where it was when I stopped seeing those squiggly little white lights flashing across my tear blurred vision...

Damn... Irony is a fickle b*tch, eh?

I should have just accepted the first stumble and fall with a little dignity and moved on.

Now I have to (1) sketch a new Sean Connery, (2) cancel the next four days of events and (3) pray I learn how to walk correctly again (and not have my foot injury morph into a larger problem - sigh). This type of stab wound is really hard to handle. It never stops hurting. That fact alone is really bumming me out because I was really looking forward to going to the gallery party tonight (eyes rolling in head, lip poking out, extremely tired put-upon sigh). I also have several illustrations and paintings to complete before my road trip. Now I have angst about driving (sigh).

Why?

Maybe because I have already busted my a$$ three times this morning simply trying to get dressed (LOL). I'm talking full topple over people (silly grin). It took me over an hour to walk 10 NYC blocks to get to Starbucks. My foot is swollen, the bottom is throbbing, the top is burning, my right ankle keeps failing, my toes wont wiggle and there is this fascinating hole with flesh missing I have to keep switching the bandages for and putting antibiotics on...

Everyone is telling me to eat a lot of raw garlic. When I finish this post I'm going to hobble my bloggers butt on over to Key Food and get some because military folk know what they are talking about...

Rumor has it I am going to have a long, boring week end unless I can find something fun to spoof on for my blog while not inadvertently crippling myself (sigh). I think I know  just the thing to cheer me up...

Stay tuned for Book Club: NYCC, Kim Harrison and Jeaniene Frost are up on deck (Oh Joy! - evil grin). ;-)

A portrait of Emmy's Marc...

Carolyn Tann Starr 2011

A portrait of Emmy's Marc...

Emelia and I started chatting about doing something custom for her gorgeous boyfriend in April. I've been sketching both of them all summer (and getting fussed at for being picky, secretive and hoarding - LOL).

When she wakes up in the morning she is going to find this embedded on her Facebook wall (because I'm such a tease and she started a mini model mutiny - silly grin).

The wee people will be picking out more sketches after dinner tomorrow... What's on deck is up to Stephen the Minion Blur during our next Skype session. FYI: My 5 year old is definitely the boss of me... especially when I'm acting like an anal retentive 3 year old playing with my paint (LOL). ;-)

Carolyn Tann Starr 2011

Life With Wee People: The shorties are picking portraits... starting with @JayeWells

Stephen, the Minion Blur likes the red sketch of Jaye Wells so we're gonna start the FB/Tweet-peep portrait tease with this 16x20 bit of canvas. I freaked a couple of people out when it posted on my profile page because some of them didn't know I could do this (they don't read my blog - silly grin). My friends are having a blast in Facebook instant chatting with me about it so how can I not post this puppy in ActiveRain?

I have three graphite/mix media drawings of Jaye so I guess they will eventually see the light of day (after I play with more peeps). I am known for hoarding my artwork because I keep trying to improve them. Besides, I plan on teasing the crap outa' her because she's such a good sport and mad fun on-line (so Jaye hoarding is mandatory -  LOL). ;-)

Who knows what I'll be bringing with me to TX, eh? 16x20 is a decent run-amok size for working in the field (evil grin) but I have to find out what the author rules are first because some authors don't accept gifts (sigh). Gotta play by the social media rules people, even if your virtual friends do let you tease them in public. ;-)

P.S. I'm sitting at her table for Readers and Ritas 2011 and plan on taking lots of pictures. Yeah... I will probably play in my sketchbook while I'm there (after all it's what I do - happy sigh).

FYI: I love her work. If you don't know who Jaye Wells is go check out Red-Headed Stepchild, The Mage in BlackGreen-Eyed Demon, Violet Tendencies and pre-order Silver-Tongued Devil because once you read the others you are not going to want to miss this. Jaye is Jaye Fabulous. I'm totally hooked on this author. She has an amazing imagination and the left and right sides of my quirky brain can't get enough (LOL).

We have more JW author tribute tracks in the works for Book Club Blues (Vol. 02). Stay tuned for round two... it's coming... ;-)

Carolyn Tann Starr 2011

We're packing up our gear and grinning ear to ear because it's a beautiful day to play...

I love Central Park. I spend an inordinate amount of time blogging in New York City parks because beauty appeals to me and it helps set the tone for mad bouts of spontaneous creativity. Sometimes, being a visual person can be a bad thing because you get distracted once in a while (or completely stumped) and can't figure out how to draw what you want to draw (e.g. I still can't figure out how to draw a pixie for the Kim-Stream).

Our photography session went well and I have the perfect shot for my Kindle book. I also sketched a few landscapes while wandering through Manhattan. I'm wired to doodle (LOL).

Now I have to decide if I want to mix my Cincinatti, Ohio pen and inks with my New York City pen and inks. I have a thing for drawing and love being anal retentive over a decent bridge (yeah... that's what I am doing right now - LOL).

Am I about to post some new pages from my sketchbook? You betcha! Might take a couple of hours because I am being very naughty having a field day with the cartoons in my head. They want to come out and play so stay tuned for more doodles. There's also a cool pen and ink portrait in here as well.

Which fave author did I draw? Hmm... Might be Kim... Might be Vicki... May even be Jocelynn... or all three (LOL).

Yeah... It's true... I'm an eye candy tease and love reading your e-mails so of course I am going to keep teasing you. How could I not? It's what I do... I may even share which painting is going to the gallery this week end. We   shall see...

Yup... beautiful day to play, indeed.

Newt really fascinates me... New sketch and other random Kim Harrison musings...

If you read my blog you know that I am a huge Kim Harrison fan and I enjoy hanging out in the Kim-Stream on Facebook. I'm having some stellar conversations over there with other people who love her work and even more fun with my brick and mortars. There is a giveaway going on so go checkout The Drama Box. I like free stuff and Kim is giving people a few shots at some neat autographed freebies.

BTW, I let my girlfriend borrow my hardcover of Pale Demon. She's now holding it hostage until I do a really nice ink portrait of Kim and Ivy.

She has a thing for Ivy (and so do I - LOL) and doesn't want me just doodling on cotton stationary in the Kim-Stream. She is demanding my anal retentive artistic mode and that I get back to sketching on the canvas I have piled against the walls. FYI: I am not letting anyone have anything original from my Kimi pile but I am sharing them on-line because a nice lady I admire said they should be shared. Sharing art puts me in my happy place so be prepared for weekly if not daily artistic mischief, but I digress  (LOL). ;-)

In case you don't know that particular anal retentive artistic mode my girlfriend is talking about, it's the one I reserve for Ward Nasse Gallery projects.

Click on the picture icons at this link and when the illustrations enlarge you will realize the difference between what I call a sketch, a doodle, a cartoon and what the sometimes snobby people who really know and love me refer to as my "real artwork" (LOL).

Michael Starr 2011

Hmm... To think I had the nerve, the audacity, the unmitigated gall to believe that all of my drawings were real artwork... (LOL). My bad... I should do a comic book of my kids just to tie their sophisticated knickers in a virtual knot. Of course I'd have to go on vacation to produce the graphic novel from Minionville staring Stephen, the Minion Blur (LOL). Noah the Net Geek spends most of his time transfixed in front of the computer. Steph is the kid you lose weight having to chase if you want to get a series of photographs (LOL). ;-)

About that new sketch and the doodle wars my blogging buddies and I are now engaged in...

If you're new to my blog you will probably need a couple of doodles or sketches to compare this one to to understand why I get fussed at by people I'm close to. I play a lot with my friends on-line so there may be times you're just not in on the subtle dares from Hell or perpetual running jokes about what to blog next (LOL).

Today's tongue in cheek banter in our daily gal pal Facebook instant chatting is about the fact that Newt fascinates me...

Here's my Kim Harrison Newt doodle based upon the cartoons living in my head inspired by her wonderful books. Unlike my last pen and ink version of Bis, I remembered to promptly sign this one (well before the sketch was done) because my friends have been printing these puppies out and had a cow this morning when they realized I forgot to sign one. I may never live that artistic global faux pax down (LOL). ;-)

Carolyn Tann Starr 2011

According to the cartoons living in my head Newt is The Demon with the Dragon Tattoo... If you annoy her Newt lets them come to life so she can sic them on you (LOL). My gal pals and I would like to know if KH is going to write an anthology so we can get into Newt's head while she's lucid. I am betting a peek into Newt's virtual mind would fry my gray matter in the most wickedly delicious ways (LOL). If you're a Kim Harrison fan then you know exactly what I am talking about (LOL). If you're not nuts about The Hollows then you have absolutely no idea what we're drooling and joking over.

Kim Harrison is an acquired taste. My friends and I are quite happily addicted (LOL). ;-)

More Kimi cartoons and random thoughts to come... I am in the studio until 6:45 pm today and have to amuse myself between musical thoughts. For now I have to go to a very late lunch. I'm low on sugar and need  lots of green tea. ;-)

Just got yelled at for posting an original illustration in Facebook and not signing it...

I'm thinking - OMG - I didn't sign it? Seriously? Oooo... that's a first (LOL). So back I go to post it with a proper signature and a promise to never ever post original art on-line without signing it ever again. ;-)

Guess I was having too much fun playing in the Kim-Stream to notice. My bad (LOL).

Still in the studio working on the album and spoofing with my on-line peeps. I'm thinking of sketching my version of Newt next while I'm looking for subtle but creepy, ethereal sounds and giving my Korg a run for its money. ;-)

You're gonna need a translator to read the press about our gallery show (LOL)

When I get e-mail in other languages I always know something is up... The fun thing about participating in an international art showing with a group of cool artists is you never know where your next bit of positive press is coming from. Kudos and congrats to all the artists hanging at the Ward Nasse Gallery and the Women in Art 2011 crew who all got a participating artist mention in the article.

Rain Party at Ward Nasse Gallery - Afterparty at Peeps - Penthouse nightcap

Rain Party at Ward Nasse Gallery - Afterparty at Peeps - Penthouse nightcap

It was simply amazing. We had an awesome turn out and I am still grinning like a cat that caught the canary. I did my first major CD signing last night and the gallery played my music during the exhibit. The best part was getting to spend the evening with my Twitter, Facebook, ActiveRain, Jango, Film and brick and mortar peeps. Old friends met new friends. Professional friends graciously extended third party introductions and opened doors for new projects to take shape while we conducted business and pleasure on the gallery floor. Models mingled with musicians... Actors teased script writers... Family members chased children... We partied way past our bedtime then went across the street to Peeps for the Afterparty. Cool bar and grill...

Carolyn Tann Starr 2011

When you visit Peeps GO IN THEIR BATHROOMS!!!!! OMG - just go to the toilet and turn around. It's quite a shock to discover you can see through the mirrored walls and watch people eating while you____ (LOL). We are soooo going back there again because the staff is mad cool and we couldn't get over the friggin' toilets and hidden art and television over the sink. We spent so much time in the gallery (well after the normal closing hour) that their kitchen closed so I can't talk about the food. I hear it's very good. We had mad fun hanging out at the bar and that will definitely be another blog post with some fun film (LOL).

We had a marvelous time... You should have come out to play with us.  :-)

I have 127 photographs and several digital film clips to eventually share with you. Here is a little Club Chaos Eye Candy to continue to tease you with until I finish editing the YouTube of our artistic adventure.

I have a Jango fan in Australia who really wanted to come but couldn't make it. My next YouTube is especially for her because Natti in Perth Australia is too far away to come out and play (so I am going to bring the highlights of our evening to her virtual door after I get some sleep - LOL). I will answer some of your texts and e-mails before I go. ;-)

Pay close attention to these faces. Say hello to the producers, script writer, editor, photographer and models for our film shoot. Some of them will be appearing in Art News and the Gallery Guide this summer. You will see their portraits unfold on my blog and get exclusive behind the scenes footage of the making of the film across our websites.

We may also give you a sneak peek of our production meetings at The Chocolate House. I am growing fond of staying at Lucy's for an artist retreat. Realtors who didn't attend this event missed a stellar opportunity to pitch renting their listings to the decision makers (I am scouting film locations people). We make appointments to view possible locations to film just like renters, buyers and sellers so the next time you have an opportunity to participate in an ActiveRain get together you may want to consider the fact that a lot of people like mixing pleasure with business. I am notorious for that so face time with me is never a waste of time (LOL). ;-)

If you follow Life With Wee Peopleyou would have had the pleasure of meeting Rainer Cindy Tsui who happens to be the wee people's Godmother and one of my best friends. If there was ever someone who could dish up the dirt on me or make me behave, that would be her (LOL). When I'm not driving Sana or my mother crazy I'm usually driving Cindy crazy. I bounce a lot of creative ideas off of her because she's brilliant. She is the brick and mortar boss of the cartoons living in my head (but that is another blog post waiting to happen - LOL). She lurks but doesn't write much in AR because she's a very busy woman who was kind enough to humor me when I insisted she had to hang out with me online. Brick and mortar friends rarely feel a need to hang out with you online when they can just hang out with you in real life. ;-)

The Rain Party at the Ward Nasse Gallery didn't end there. It ended here, in an exclusive penthouse roof garden with stellar views of the Manhattan skyline and the river.

I bet the next time I invite you guys to one of my Rain Parties you'll take the e-mail invitation more seriously (LOL). I actually had a Realtor e-mail me back and state she was not interested in the link and also asked if I could remove her from my mailing list. Hmm... I guess she doesn't want my referrals either...  Oh well...

Ward Nasse Gallery sneak peek...

There's more eye candy but I plan to have fun with it in YouTube later so do try and stay patient with me because I'm off the grid working and not answering my cell phone for a couple of hours.

I had to do a touch up on one piece because Stephen the Minion Blur left his mark on it... Literally (but that's another blog post - LOL).

I have been getting a lot of requests since I posted my previous post. We already selected what I want to show in March but I will try to accommodate some of you with the next exhibition if I can. I might be able to rotate a couple of pieces if the gallery gives their permission. ;-)
