With over 150 Million user accounts why would you not hang out on iTunes Ping?
Sometimes you have to state the obvious because some people are so search-engine-ranking obsessed that they miss the social media benefits of simply spending time with people that have a common interest: music.
Because of Ping I got to see Yo Yo Ma perform "New York State Of Mind" for over 400 NYC school kids. Cool is reading his personal thoughts on the subject and participating in a chat with fans and the performers about it simply by posting a comment and reading all the other comments.
I am now working with educators from the NYC Board of Education to do a performance for elementary school kids and introduce them to the programs I use to create music. They are going to get to play with my Korg N364, MBox 2 and laptop running Avid Pro Tools, Sony Acid and Sony Sound Forge in a small, intimate setting because teachers who like my music invited me.
I have not finished my holiday album and may even do one devoted to children's music because of my latest on-going brick and mortar iTunes conversation.
Because of Ping new people follow me on Twitter and I have actors and musicians asking me about the housing market and lurking on my multiple ActiveRain blogs.
Are you sure you don't want to have people discover you on Ping and possibly follow you elsewhere if you generate enough interest through your comments on Ping social media pages? It's not to shove your businesses down people's throats so DO NOT COMMENT SPAM Pingers. It's simply to share your joy in music and to let people discover what they like about your musical tastes that may lead to other conversations.

Once you download the iTunes 10 program you will see access to Ping in two places: (1) The sidebar under the "Store" category and (2) The header at the far right of the Home icon after iTunesU.
Click on Ping, set up your personal account and start exploring. Recording artists have a landing page where you can see the album covers to our fave ten songs, posts and comments plus we also have a "My Artist Page" for all our music and podcasts:

Most people who do use social media are people with something to share and pick their platforms based upon the features of the dashboard tools. If you use Twitter then you understand the concept of micro-blogs and tweets. If you use Blip.fm you understand what it means to blip music onto other website platforms like Facebook and Twitter. If you use ActiveRain you understand the power of built in SEO and ease of syndication
The use of social media platforms is to invite engagement. Don't under estimate the potential level of engagement on Ping. Don't under estimate the interest people have in reading positive music reviews and having people take the time to click off a favorable star rating, make a tweet or embed a Facebook link. I made several new musical friends because of it. You could too...
Did you know the artist pages have to be verified by Apple, the distributor and the record label before the account is approved? Ping is about getting virtual access to the creative forces behind the music you love.
Question: Why would you devote so much time to creating business podcasts and sticking them on your ActiveRain sidebars (and other spots like Wordpress), then not open a Ping account? All it takes is a free download of iTunes 10 and depending upon who you interview it may also get embedded on related audio pages.
The podcast Josef Katz did with me at Trump University automatically links onto my music artist page because my being embedded in the work causes the computer to link it back to me as well as the Trump page. That's how some people discovered I am into real estate, among other things... (LOL)
Since I have a few Rainers working with me on a couple of new audio visual projects life may get even more interesting in Club Chaos (LOL). I will be doing more Value Pages Group Get More Business podcasts and would love to work with Carra's Cosmic Cow Pie brand. I have TEDxRDU coming up next year with Heather O. I also promised to continue the "how to monetize your blog" series at REBarCamp. All those videos and select podcasts will be on iTunes, YouTube, Facebook and ActiveRain.
What will people discover about you once you virtually connect through your love of Mozart, Alicia Keys and The Rolling Stones?
Wanna follow someone on Ping?
Feel free to start with me (follow Tann Starr - LOL). ;-)
Search for people in the Ping search engine embedded in the iTunes 10 program and click the follow button when you find who you are looking for.
There is even a private option that lets you keep your Ping habits to yourself unless you give permission for someone to follow you. I have a personal and an artist account. The artist account is public. The personal account is private.
When you play music in iTunes you are going to see a Ping button on the track playing. Sharing it so the rest of the users following you can discover who you like is simply a Ping click away. :-)

If you are down with Rapzilla (Christian Rap & Hip Hop Magazine) you have got to consider voting for Jehovah's Boy "So Free." My nephew Tony introduced me to his music. I think it is awesome. :-)
