Meet Joy Bonner. She's A Sweetheart But I See I'm Gonna Have To "Minionize" Her... Seriously. She's a blogging virgin, doesn't have a single social media account and is not familiar with manipulating graphics programs on computers... Hmm...

JB is about to go through our version of SEO BootCamp and I have to say I feel as if Club Chaos is about to launch an ActiveRain Realty TV show (LOL). She's getting her computer fixed and when she does her upgrade I want it to be from her IP address, not mine. Very important mentors: Have your students set up from their equipment, not yours. They need to work with what they have, not rely upon using what you have. :-)

Step one is opening up an ActiveRain account. We put off setting up her AR profile yesterday because I realized she really needed to hit the streets and learn about the value of eye candy. She has beautiful listings but no eye candy. Hmm... I don't just want the people I mentor to open an account, I want them to have some material to get started with and see some results. I will be catching up with her later to explain the AR dashboard, hits, views and Goggle analytics.

Step Two is opening up an Outside Blog. Writers need to be found and Realtors need to showcase their listings while writing posts for Localism to show off their neighborhoods. Listings and business are not the only thing to talk about. The goal is to engage in conversations about the things that interest you. Our second lesson had to do with what to do with your eye candy once you collect it. We are going to be working on a YouTube presentation so you can see where we've been and where we like to go. :-)

There is no point in making a profile if you are not going to use it. JB is pretty excited about joining the ActiveRain Real Estate Network, however, you have to temper someone's excitement with reality. Blogging takes dedication and when you open your social media accounts you have to maintain them. Social media is about being social. :-)

Virgin bloggers need incentive to not only get in but stay in the game. To that end, we called a couple of her clients to set up appointments to collect some photographs so I could show her how to move a blog post up the Google rankings and aim for page one while showing the public what's available. We had a blast running around Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, New York and the Brooklyn Navy Yard. I have a thing for commercial property and am about to embark on a SEO adventure with our new Realtor friend from Clinton Hill regarding a very roomy rental. My next post will be about her commercial listing in the Brooklyn Navy Yard and the history of the area for Localism.

I think I am really going to enjoy actively participating in the real estate adventures of newbie bloggers (LOL). They are funny as hell without trying to be. You guys know how easily amused I am (LOL). JB is a lot of fun.

Here's a little peek of some of the eye candy from Clinton Hill and the Brooklyn Navy Yard collected during our first mentoring session:

So, I'm standing outside of JB's listing wondering if I climb the side of the building what kind of views would my Nikon see of Manhattan... (LOL) Didn't want to scare her on our first outing together, but boy was I tempted to test out a few of those rungs...  (LMAO). Seriously! Photographers always obsess about getting the right shot... We'll go just about anywhere to capture the right moment for a stellar bit of eye candy, but I digress... :-)

Carolyn Tann-Starr Brooklyn Navy Yard

She really does have some very nice listings and the views from the Brooklyn Navy Yard parking lots alone make me want to move there and open a Gallery (LOL). A little sheet rock and paint would work wonders on this place... What do you think? Wanna see it up close and personal? Shoot me an e-mail or give JB a call. Gotta run. Time to post some tutorials so she'll have an idea of what her next assignment will be (LOL). I've got students to teach and more introductions to write... I am collecting social media peeps throughout the industry. This is going to be an interesting weekend (LOL).

Need help setting up an account or Outside Blog? Shoot me an e-mail. ;-)

C, Joy is lucky to have you for a mentor. I'm looking forward to her first post.

Posted by Maria Morton, Kansas City Real Estate 816-560-3758 (Chartwell Kansas City Realty) about 10 years ago

Thank you, Maria. Looking forward to seeing what she comes up with. Writing is new and can be a bit intimidating. I want her to relax, not feel pressured and pick a subject that interests her. There are so many ways one can tie an area's points of interest back to a listing. :-)

C,

Thank you for introducing JB to us and I will be looking for her once I get to NY in my search for newbies.  I do start at the bottom and work up.  OOOOPS I let it slip how I am looking for the newbies.  ;-)

Don, awesome! Don't mind the Freudian slip, my friend. Maybe you will inspire others to get involved. :-)

Here's an interesting tid bit. If you Google the name "Joy Bonner" out of 517,000 Google hits, this post shows up in position #8 on page one of Google (LOL). Wow... page one on Google  from 8:59 AM to 11:13 AM EST.I may have to call her and let her know it happened before lunchtime (LMAO).

To think I had the nerve to tell her she would probably have to wait a day (ROTFLMAO) ;-)

She shares the same name with a Rock Band Diva so this should become very interesting... :-D

I hope Joy will take full advantage of all that AR offers......she is in for a wild ride (especially with your guidance)!

CTS - Joy Bonner is blessed to have you mentoring her!  Cant wait to see how this looks after a week of hanging around with you!

Posted by Teresa K. Nelson (Windermere Real Estate/HLC) about 10 years ago

Thanks, these are good comments.  I have so much work to do.  I feel like I need a technical and personal makeover.  I had a tough week.

Posted by Carol Hanson Sheehy (Prudential Florida Realty) about 10 years ago

Ann, this is going to be mad fun. I was born and raised in Brooklyn and I know it very well. I have clients and relatives there. ;-)

Teresa, I hate to say it but I don't know if that would be an actual blessing (ROTFLMAO). I am a bit quirky, after all. Imagine if I inspire quirky blogs (LOL). Hmm... too blunt in my thinking perhaps? BTW, thank you for your kind words, lovely... ;-)

Carol, you have come to the right place. There is nothing like Active Rain. It's a great platform to make friends and learn the ropes. Go join Club Chaos. Sent you an invitation. Lets hang out. Bet we make your week better (LOL). Phone tag, you're it! Will call you later. :-)

Posted by C Tann-Starr (Tann Starr & Associates, Inc.) about 10 years ago

Hey Caroline - thanks for taking me on a trip to my old stomping grounds!  I think I may have mentioned that I was born and raised in B'klyn.  I find that I was jaded to many things while living there and looking back I can now appreciate all the great old buildings/brownstones.

Can't wait to welcome Joy as a new Active Rainer!

Posted by Sandy Fenton, ABR, ASP, CDPE, GRI -Westchester NY - Condos to Luxury Homes (Keller Williams NY Realty * Licensed Associate Broker) about 10 years ago

Sandy, you and I are sooooo overdue for a play date (LOL). Us Brooklynites have gotta stick together. Seriously! (LOL). BTW, I have got to get up there and go on an eye candy hunt with you. Got an out of state Rainer in NYC right now so I can't play until after next week. We should have that long awaited lunch we've been joking about. Maybe I'll pack a picnic... bring you some seriously tasty Jewish food (LOL). ;-)

Posted by C Tann-Starr (Tann Starr & Associates, Inc.) about 10 years ago

Caroline, when is your trip to Seattle scheduled?

Posted by Teresa K. Nelson (Windermere Real Estate/HLC) about 10 years ago

Teresa, I have been drooling over the left coast for a while. I don't know exactly when, but I am hoping it will be very soon. I have people to make crazy and hug (LOL).  ;-)

Posted by C Tann-Starr (Tann Starr & Associates, Inc.) about 10 years ago

Absolutely!  I love anything I don't have to cook!  Or, we can go to my favorite Mexican place that I've been meaning to blog about . . . LOL  I am a fairly good cook but I find it to be such a chore.  After shopping, preparing and then cooking it I am ready to shoot somebody!  Seriously . . . (To quote a verbose ARer I know)  I have better things to do with those 2 hours . . .

Maybe you'll come up when our new library opens - serious eye candy for you.  You'll have a blast.  Give a holler whenever you're ready.

Sandy, that sounds very interesting. Keep me up to date on the library and I shall definitely coordinate our schedules for a visit. :-)

I really enjoyed your post. Of course I am reading it from a newbies perspective so it was also a bit helpful and God know I need a push in the right direction. Well actually a big old shove would be nice!!!! Thanks!

Posted by Dianne Hicks (Realty ONE Group) about 10 years ago

Diane, sending you an invitation to join Club Chaos. Come play with us (LOL). I am recruiting newbie minions on a quest for Google domination and will be pushing and shoving a whole lot of people around while having mad fun (LMAO). ;-)

Your posts are always great and refreshing.  I'm just starting out and had my first success with google.  Trying to get the hang of it.

Posted by C Tann-Starr (Tann Starr & Associates, Inc.) about 10 years ago

I'm here to play....don't play too rough.  I got part of the google instructions but after the paste into word doc then what?  Can't save it as a jpg so how do I put it in wordpress.  Have to try again.

Posted by Bonnie Vaughan, CNE SFR - Buyers/Sellers - Lackawanna & Surroundin about 10 years ago

Has anyone thought to warn Joy Bonner about the cost of being minionized???  Carolyn will be inspiring her to post regularly, play nicely in the Rain and plastering her all over Google.

Run, Joy, run!

Posted by Irene Kennedy Realtor® in Northwestern NJ (Weichert) about 10 years ago

Bonnie, what about saving it as a gif? Hmm... I may have to call you later. :-)

LOL @ Irene. :-)

Ms. C Tann-Starr walks on water in my book.  She is a techie, mother, realtor, artist, humanitarian and so much more!  The world is a better place for your efforts!  Thanks for getting me and so many others started in the right direction!

Posted by Carol Hanson Sheehy (Prudential Florida Realty) about 10 years ago

Thank you, Lise (LOL).

Carol, I can't swin so the walking on water thing is mad scary (LOL). Got to leave that one to Jesus bay-bay. (LMAO). ;-)

Posted by C Tann-Starr (Tann Starr & Associates, Inc.) about 10 years ago

C, I can't believe we didn't have mentors like this when I started last year! This is great. She'll hit the ground running  and never look back.

Chicka is a quick study and I am going to really enjoy hanging out with her. I count myself lucky that I had people like Melodious adopt me. We all need to adopt a few newbies. :-)
