Got a Share Button? You should get one for your websites. Seriously...
Sitting on the dock fooling around with my website coding. I started adding a "Share This" button on the end of some of my posts at CarolynTannStarr.com and even tossed one on my sidebar over here at ActiveRain.com to share the Wordy C blog... I am going to have to manually do this 256 times over there to share each individual post before I take a crack at doing it 952 times over here (which will be a digital S&M moment - LOL).
It would be nice if ActiveRain.com could incorporate it into their platform like they did with the Facebook Like Button so we could share individual posts with people and not aggravate our carpel tunnel from clicking away fiendishly to code every single post. It would also help us and our readers expand our digital territory when we write something interesting that people happen to like. Just saying it would be very useful for people to LIKE something somewhere else besides Facebook...
Click on my sidebar Share This button as an example to view all the options to see just how many other places you can share your links with people who like reading you. (Psssst... I want an automated share this feature for each post, did you get the big hint? BTW, in case "they" miss this post start asking for it bay-bays - LOL)
In the meantime go sign up for a free account and get your Share This scripts to embed on your sidebars and posts.
This widget has been very useful for my work as the NY Working Moms Examiner (I have the Share button on the top and bottom of each article). According to my Google Alerts people have me trending for my job suggestions so I am running out the door to go do some research for my Job of the Day series I am starting over there to keep my readers happy. Feel free to make use of the buttons while I am gone and create your own so people will trend your topics as well. The cool thing about sharing and trending is it will inspire writers to write more on the subjects that readers indicate they like.
Will be posting all kinds of fun stuff later this afternoon based upon my trending reports and predilection for being a wee bit silly (LOL).
I have ten items in draft that need to get published and new music to introduce you guys to with lots of River Cafe eye candy. Yup. Gonna do a foodie paradise review of a stellar spot to eat at in Brooklyn with lovely views of the Manhattan skyline. CarolynTannStarr.com went live on-line May 31st and has over 250 ActiveRain posts republished there. We are going to create a hot spot for the music crew and the wee people's La Femme Art project. I am not the ony artist who brings her kids to work and I have hooked up with some working moms that are going to virtually blow your mind with the talents that they have. It's a girl's club of talented women who are about to come out and play in cyberspace. I have a lot of brick and mortars to bring into the blogging fold. We are building a virtual home for Club Chaos Boot Camp. It will be just like a university blackboard powered by Moodle. Very cool work in progress (when I am not destroying modules - LOL). :-)
A "Bad Gateway" error is keeping me from showing you a sneak preview right now. It's no fun blogging live from cool locations when you can't upload your eye candy on a whim. The AR programmers are working on that so have patience with me and them. We will be making a lot more videos since that feature appears to be working fine and the La Femme Art crew will be specializing in "How To" behind the scene instructional videos staring a bunch of wee people (LOL). Oh, the things we plan to show you guys this Summer... It will be mad fun. We've started collecting suggestions and donations for the film crew and the shorties. Contrary to popular belief, everyone on my creative crew does not work for M&Ms (LMAO). ;-)
Time to get back to work. I love my digital day job and will be doing brick and mortar real estate in the afternoons. Might even post something real estate related later on that you may find useful... Maybe... it depends upon which e-mails I decide to answer in public (LOL). Go have fun today. We certainly are. ;-)

Try adding the code into your footer here, then it is in each & every post you write here :) Not sure if it will accept the code or not. Dont know why it wouldn't.
O.K., another button to consider. My mind is so full of buttons......
I'll have to give it a shot, C! I like Jeremy's idea so I may try that too!
A digital S & M moment! And for some reason it hurts so good a little more! HAHAHAHA!
I'ma try Jeremy's idea too! Lessee if it works!
CTann - Ok, I promise I will try this but I have to warn you that I can be technologically challenged at times. I'm still trying to figure out how to put graphs in my blog posts. One more thing I have to learn to do. LOL
I've got it on my website and wordpress blog but I hadn't thought about trying to add it here. Putting it in your blog signature line seems like a good work around.
So appreciate all this good information...have bookmarked, so can get back to it. Thank you!
It works like a charm! I'm ho-in my self all over the Web!
Oh, yes, this ROCKS!
FEATURED IN
~ I ROCK, THEREFORE I AM ~
When you sign up for ShareThis and create the button, it gives you 2 sets of code.
The first set of code DID NOT paste into my signature but the second set DID.
You are so far ahead of the curve, CTS! I'm running frantically to try to catch up - or at least narrow our technological gap. LOL.
I swear this is like a virtual keepin' up with the Joneses!!! Thank you C! :)
I'll give this a try again - it didn't work when I first discovered it a few weeks ago. Thanks for reminding me to try again.
Carolyn - It's been on my side bar here in the rain for some time now ..... but I don't know if any one has used it yet
Carolyn, great button... thanks for sharing this!
C,
Be very careful with this button, we have had to remove them from every grapevine city because they caused problems loading the sites.

OMG, one more thing that in the quiver of arrows to keep you from getting stale.
I use addthis button in my signature so it is at the bottom of every blog
great tool
Hi, I incorporated it into my signature line awhile back. So happy that I don't have a make work project to do today lol.
I have used both AddThis and ShareThis on many of my websites, but moved towards using AddThis when needed to implement it on SSL enabled websites. Have not looked at ShareThis in a long time.
No matter which one you decide to use, it's a great and easy way to "spread" your content.
Ok, I just bookmarked this. I will add it to my LONG to-do list! I like the idea of adding to my footer on each post. I will check back and see if anyone has figured out how to do this :)
This is way cool, and another thing I HAVE to add to my list of add on's! Thanks Carolyn and have a great weekend!
Another button to add..w.hen I am more proficient in adding buttons! LOL
C-this is a great idea! Thanks so much for the idea! Now I just have to figure it out! LOL
CT - A real keeping up with the CTanns... actually....lol Thanks for this. Much appreciated :-) I love this stuff. Thanks for hipping us to this once again Carolyn Nice
C- this is probably way better than having all those "connect to" buttons on your blog. thanks I will definitely try this later.
Carolyn, I like the idea of having it in my auto signature, so I got my code, copied and pasted it to where I wanted it and it showed up when I hit preview!! I must say I was very proud of myself LOL However, when I hit update, the widget was not there in my auto signature :). Any ideas?
Just got in with the little minions from a photo shoot.
I am in dummy guide mode with this widget code because there are several to choose from and I don't know which one AR will pick for their platform as the best compatible choice. I do know the code from their site I embedded in my ActiveRain sidebar works perfectly for people to share my blog with others. The ones I also embedded on the individual WordPress posts work fine for each specific post.
The signature section in AR is not post specific but blog specific so I hesitate to install it in that section because it will share my blog link in general (like the one on my sidebar) rather than each specific post link which is my ultimate trending analytic goal. Will nag a few programming mommies and get back to you about why it appears to work for some and not others. I will call AR in the morning and see what they say.
Got to edit some digital film. Will be back to experiment with some java-script in a few...
CT - Am having difficulty installing on my WP.. ugh... Share is still in Beta could this be my prob? Just sayin...
CT - Thanks so much for the email about this post! I love it! It sounds like there are a few wrinkles that need to be worked out. You are saying that if we put the embed code in our signature for each post, it doesn't share that specific post? It just shares the general blog? I'm afraid I have to go back and reread your post.....
Anything to help us be more productive Carolyn, thanks!!
way I see it, you have your subscribers to your blog
every other view is blog post specific from google juice or syndication of the URL IMHO
therefor the button in either the signature or the side column would spread just that specific post
therefore the signature gets my vote because upon finishing reading, the reader is looking at teh signature. Lord only knows where in teh column the button is when the reader finishes reading. And if it is not in their face when they are finished and wanting to share I do not think they are going to look over the entire page to see if there is some sharing button somewhere. I would rather have it right after what they read, enjoyed and wish to spred FWIW
CT, you are one amazing woman! My head is spinning just from reading what you're involved in at so many different levels and you still have time to post more here? Amazing! Thanks for the tip - I am concerned about the comment from grapevine about it causing their sites not to load...
cool! I need to come back and reread this and study it. LIke Jeremy says, what about adding it to the bottom of each post... just copy and paste each time?
Okay I'm stalking you on YouTube now.
C- Don't you remember when we had the thumbs up and down buttons? Apparently some people are too childish to be trusted with them. >.<
LOL @ Lisa. Thumbs up and down is anonymous and some people were beyond childish with them (which may be an understatement - LOL). The share button links social media accounts and unique visitors, which can be very useful if you are targeting portions of your writing to attract and grow specific types of readers.
Georgina, we have plans for YouTube. I have been neglecting them but see the error of my social media ways (LOL).
Frank and Sharon, so am I. "Social Influence Reports" are being created to help users understand the possible impact our content has on the digital conversations that influence the growth of our websites and businesses. My goal is to cultivate and grow socially-referred traffic and engage in more lucrative conversations and less squabbling with the competition. If we can index our sites and categories of content performance against what the public finds relative and useful, we can maximize our efforts by writing more under those categories that produces the most influence. Life With Wee People generates a lot of e-mail for me and gets us invites to a lot of fun functions. It also generates a higher ratio of mothers with children as real estate customers and clients.
Daniel, more people read me than subscribe. More people RSS feed and bookmark me than subscribe. My goal is to capture a record of the reader's impulse to share specific content. Trending reports are valuable tools in this regard, but how much value people perceive in the information depends upon what they want to do and use it for... I want to grow my business and get more streams of business revenue.
I created a commercial WordPress site to develop as a spot for my writers to collect advertising revenue because people keep contacting me about advertising on my ActiveRain blogs. The ClubChaosAgents.com team blog gets a lot of inquiries.
I also wanted to backup my content on-line. I selected what I wanted to republish and left everythig else in draft mode over there. I deleted a few posts, but not much and will be setting up specific pages for each writer I high-jack because they can export their blogs there as well. All they have to do is forward me their ActiveRain export zip file for me to create a contributor profile on the site. I send them a password, they log in and pick and choose what to republish from their collection. Jessica R Klein is my first newbie writer. I want to start with 5 writers because I routinely crash the site experimenting (LOL). Making sub-sites is tricky business. I will be RSS feeding each writer's portfolio of content across the web on their individual pages so people can follow them, donate to their creative projects, buy their products and share their links. They will have their own advertising space to collect their own ad revenue.
We have to create new content there to drive traffic to our writing portfolios so I have high-jacked a couple of cool writers and two fun programmers to do a new thing with previously published work to make sure the site works. We are experimenting live with the WordPress and Moodle platforms and will be setting up a creative boot camp for the Chaos crew and anyone else who wants to come playwhile learning something.
If we create enough How To content we can eventually submit them for state and federal review to earn continuing education credits for users. We downloaded the specs for CA, MD, SC, FL, TX and NY before we started. The feds and those states are providing our virtual blackboard guidelines for our e-books, webinars and on-line classes. Our first two real estate modules will be based upon students downloading government PDFs and buying Elizabeth Weintraub's and Margaret Rome's books for class. We figure if there is required reading the least we can do is get approved as a college elective or provide accredited continuing education credits (LOL). We are taking our time and having fun with it and will probably include more books written by Rainers. If you can't have fun at work why bother? ;-)
Gary, I am discovering there are so many widgets being developed to help people navigate the web that it seems counter intuitive not to incorporate the most popular ones. People have an expectation when they come to a site. If they don't see social media options to feed their social media habits they might not notice or care. However, the ones who do notice and care may contact you to ask why you are using it on one site and not the others. That is what happened to me. The public started sharing my work on Examier.com, read my bio, went to ClubChaosAgents.com, floated over to ActiveRain.com because of the sidebar Club Chaos butterfly that state Club Chaos @Active Rain and wanted to know where my share buttons went because they are reading us but can't share us (LOL). Think of all that new potential traffic not being generated... That is why I wrote the post. I think it is a conversation worth having and a very useful widget to ask ActiveRain to include in the line-up. ShareThis.com keeps stats that include real time trending. You not only get to keep track of what your stats are doing, you get to see the trending time line based upon public usage, sort of like a general twitter feed updating.
C - This seems like a great idea. I'm going to study this post in more detail to decide how I can implement the share button.
I'm on it! Thanks for the tidbit.
Just in time advise for my regular updates. Thanks.............................chris
This will help. Thanks so much.
Hi Carolyn! Blessings to you.... have a great summer... thanks for the NFO
Just put the code in your blog footer. That way it will show up in every post.
C~ A day late and look at all I missed! A must have button for all!
Featured in Cosmic Cow Pie
I've tried many of the buttons, and so far only the 'horizontal or vertical counters' in the sidebar will display and work.
The 'multiple icons' (second (all chiclets) set of code) will paste to signature and display but you can't clickthru.
If anyone has more on this, let's hear it. :)
Candylad, I noticed that when I was lurking on your blog yesterday. The code works for my outside blogs but not the dashboard or Localism. I made a members only post about a couple of quirks when embedded into the signature section. The links work great for sharing the team blog but I have yet to find a solution for it to share individual posts on this platform. Works perfectly in WordPress when embedded in individual posts to share.
I am still playing with it. Making a podcast module... It works on the test pages for the site we are building. :-)
C, I have this now for a few months & it's great. I use it whenever I see it to email myself articles/posts/pages I want to reference. Only thing is, no one has used it on my site yet! You get an update every week on who sends out what which is helpful knowing which posts were favored.
C, got your Club Chaos email about this...got my button...you rock.
Just when I thought I'd get a day off, you come up with something else to fiddle around with. Thanks, C! It looks very cool.
Cheers,
Robin
C...
This is too cool for words, I'm going to try this right away! Thanks as always for the heads-up!
I LOVE this feature .... thank you so much for sharing this! pippa
Thanks for the tip. I'll check it out.
Patricia/Seacoast NH
Ah Ha...
There you are. I could have sworn I already commented on this. Guess not. In any case, you're right C. AR needs that button. If we can like ourselves, we should be able to share ourselves :)
TLW...Yo Momma...ROAR!
Interesting discussion but it's beginning to feel like we're just chasing our tails around in circles.
C- I love this, and I sure hope AR will act on your suggestion: it makes sense,
Thanks for sharing this tip... I would say that your share buttons changing from circles to rectangles is a noticeable incongruity, but doesn't matter really.
Thanks
Wow - always something new to add!!! Thanks!
Thanks for the heads up! i never would have thought to do this... And there is a lot more added exposure to this...
If it's for free it is for me. I like it and have book marked it.
Will bookmark and try when I catch up!
Awesome! I'm going to try this tonight! I just "shared this" with myself so I can re-read from my in-box. Yeah, C!
Great idea C, I'll have to check it out once you get everything setup.
Definitely a good idea, C. There are a lot of potential readers out there beyond Facebook. It's added to my very long list of things to do!
Thanks for sharing. I am going to give it a try.
I sent myself an e-mail via the "share button" but haven't received an e-mail yet. ?????
Another button and more buttons. I will have to check this one out. Sounds like a great idea.
thanks for sharing
tom
Great Post! I use several different Share buttons for what I do. I market Real Estate with tours, and have syndicated on a mass scale with these buttons.
It is a priceless process, and yields results every time!
Thanks
So much to learn! This seems like it should be towards the top of the list, though. Thank-you for sharing with us! I'm looking forward to reading more of your posts.
Sitting on the dock fooling around with my website coding ... sounds like the perfect place to play around!
Erica, The New York City water taxis are really cool.
Thank you, Marie.
S Nathan, there are a lot of useful widgets out there. :-)
Scott, you are welcome.
Tom, I'm still trying to figure out why it shows up on the outside but not the inside blogs. Making good use of it though. I am getting results. :-)
Lori, I will look into the e-mail issue. I have not used that feature.
Jonathan, you are very welcome.
John, my long list of things to do is getting waaaaaaay out of control (LOL). I am still chipping away at it. :-)
Chris, will update you guys about the kink work arounds when they act on the bugs reported.
I am just leaving a mark to make sure I come back and read this when I have more time...
Thanks....Installing mine now! This is great widget.
Nadine
Nadine, it is a mad useful little widget. :-)
Doreen, I hope you do get to use it. :-)
Hi C Tann, looks like that might be useful. I'm not too techie, but I'll try it.
Liz, very useful and I am enjoying it. :-)
One more useful tool to add to my tool box, thanks.
Michelle, you are welcome. :-)
