Get ready for growing pains... Facebook is removing boxes...
http://developers.facebook.com/blog/post/399
Facebook previously announced plans during October 2009 to (1) remove application boxes and (2) application info sections on our personal profile pages. Facebook also informed users they planned to reduce the width of the application tabs "to optimize for the new profile and Facebook Pages format."
Hmm...
You do realize they will be moving forward with these changes sooner than you think... According to the above link, those changes are going to be happening during the week of August 23, 2010.
Got business information in those profile boxes on your personal pages? You may want to start reading up on how to customize the new tabs because those profile boxes are gonna be gone...
For the people who don't get the significance of this little announcement: Did I mention your info in the boxes will be gone?
Ah.
Bet that got your attention...
Go look at the row of boxes directly under your personal profile picture. Don't know about you but I have business website links, photo albums, video and other brief points of useful information there. Some of you have listing widgets and music...
Those boxes have a lot of significance to many users.
I am not happy about the change but I do respect their right to make programming improvements to the website.
Get ready for growing pains...

If you need help with this stuff, I highly recommend hiring Mike Mueller to help you out! He can fix up the pages in a jiffy!
Thanks Carolyn for the heads up on FB.
C...
Ugh....I like things the way they are. But I guess with all of the users they have to cut back on server demand somehow!
OUCH! I knew the size of some stuff was getting more narrow - but didn't think about those NOTES! Headed over to see what I'm losing!
Thanks so much for the warning! Need to go take a look!
OMG, just as I was trying to get caught up on some other things.

Feel free to post the links to your Facebook business pages here so I can check them out. :-)
I am definitely going to have to go lurk on Mike M's posts regarding this. Most people who visit with me in Facebook never/hardly ever click on my tabs. They just hit the profile landing page to see what I've been up to or go straight to the business fan page.
Marti, thank you for the feature in your group. :-)
I've been wondering what the new page would look like......guess it won't be long before we find out!
Ugh...are you saying the pages we favorite are going to be gone. And under our names I have all my lists, if they left, not sure I would be on Facebook much as that has kept me sane.
Ann, I am wondering too...
Missy, I have no idea what our next set of instructions will be regarding how to migrate the information... I do have a "boxes" tab full of boxes with more info (networked blogs, etc) but if they are going to be removed from my landing page I have no idea how it will affect that tab.
I noticed that little warning this morning too. Now to go figure out how it will impact me and make the necessary changes. I believe it will impact fan pages too.
Ugh, where is all of that information supposed to go? ACK! I knew it was getting narrower, but really didn't realize the significance. Lovely.
I think I'll have another beer and curl up with the book "Future Shock."
J Phillip, I am in the fetal position reading like a crazy woman (LOL).
To think I thought I was gonna have a lazy vacation... Hahahahahahahaaaaaaaa :-D
OK looks like we all have some homework to do now. Thanks for the heads up. I will have to take a look at the link. Change hardly ever is pain free!
Thanks for the heads up on this....

C Tann, I got a note to see what the new "preview" page will look like when the changes go in to effect...not sure it will make a big difference for most peoples primary use of facebook.
Oh ugh! Thanks for the painful update hot stuff...off to read all about it. Dang....just when I get the new FB figured out they change it on us again, lol.
I'll echo Mike in Jeremy's comment #2. Mike Mueller ROCKS. Changes are ok... we just have to adjust. It'll be alright.
C- Thanks for the heads up. Seems like all the "improvements" on all these social networking sites, translate into more work and reorginazation for all the rest of us.
Jennifer, I work in 20 minute intervals. My kids are a wee bit crazy so I have to do small tasks in a very efficient manner. It also helps when all my social media tabs are open at the same time (LOL). I click on the ones that flash new info in the toolbar widgets, popping back and forth between accounts. :-)
Lora, very true. My social media websites have been putting me through my paces (LOL).
I took a look at my custom pages in the new format, and I think they're okay. Got my fingers crossed.
Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water...
I was almost ready to jump in, updating my pages. Glad I waited... now I too wait for the next set of instructions! :)
C-1-how in the world do you do all that you do????
2. -thank you for this information. Just when I think I have a handle on Facebook and who can see what and what to put where, they go and want to make changes.
Jeezz - I don't even have the AR community sponsorship pages figured out (hint for someone to call me) and now this!
Thanks for heads up. Mike M's phone is going to be ringing off the wall!
Another thing you'll have to do is, if you're using a custom avatar that is the current maximum size allowed by Facebook (200x600 pixels), you'll have to resize it to 180x540 pixels for it to display properly.
I had heard about this a while ago. I had forgotten about it though. Links are very very important.
Hey C-Tann, congrats on your feature, but aw man for the news. :/ Growing pains are right, always have to learn something new to be on the top of your game for the Internet world. Thanks for the heads up
C-Tann,
This certainly will cause lots of us problems. Would you post to facebook fanatics? I would love to feature it there as well...
I absolutely do not understand why Facebook adds things and then takes them away. The site is in such constant flux I think that the changes will be the sites achilles heel. Too tired tonight, need to go figure it out tomorrow.
What's interesting is that fact that I did not set up the boxes, they were just there. Most of them happened without my help. I wonder if those will transfer to tabs?
Doreen, I have been reading their blog for hours trying to figure out what we are supposed to use as html boxes once they take "the boxes" away. I like discovering people's links and widgets on their profile landing pages. I am still trying to wrap my head aroud their digital roadmap...
Kate, my eyes are crossing trying to figure this out. I know I have to do something with my static info, I am just not sure what would be best.
LOL@ Nathan :-)
CTann - Once again thanks for the heads up on this... I guess fb has to keep up with the changes as well...
CTann - Once again thanks for the heads up on this... I guess fb has to keep up with the changes as well...
Carolyn - Thanks for the heads up, I had no idea. I guess I need to research how this will impact me...
Wow! Thanks for the heads-up, Carolyn! Great post and some great, informative comments, too.
You guys are all very welcome and thank you for the kind comments. :-)
CRAP! I thought they already did this. The page size has been moving around every week. This sucks!
Hi Carolyn, thanks for the heads up! You are so awesome for doing this!
Thank you C-Tan, I must admit, that I do not know the real significance of those changes, I do not like the removal of the links under my name, that is where most of my advertising is... the free one of course, thanks for the heads up, I'll check it out.
Antonio
Thanks for the update/warning!
I am over in Facebook now messing around with tabs. I am building a music and a merch store tab. Wish me luck. I am sooooooooo clueless on how to move this stuff around. Working on my learning curve while stretched out on the living room floor with the shorties driving hot wheel cars. :-)
It's so nice to get the notices ahead of time and not be blindsided.
Tracy, it is indeed. I just added "My Band" tabs to four of my Facebook pages. I have to learn how to customise them more. Doing more experiments... :-)
Don, I kinda know what you mean. :-)
