I woke up this morning with a box of 404 Likes on my Facebook profile page. Make it go away...
So... did Facebook make the August 23rd "we are no longer supporting boxes" decree so they could add personal information to our profile pages we don't want prominently displayed there? What the heck is wrong with them? Why are we constantly struggling to opt out of features they force us to opt into?
I did not ask for a "Likes" box to replace my Mafia Wars spot.
How dare you dump our HTML widgets spots of what we wanted to specifically share so you could implement exposing everyone's likes...
I dislike your LIKES box and want instructions on how to make it go away since I DON'T LIKE IT...
Anyone know how to do this feel free to post the instructions here...
Seeing that really flipped my b*tch switch this morning... Just because I like something doesn't mean I automatically want to prominently endorse it to all of my personal and business connections. I do not "like" things with equal intensity and only endorse the people, places and things that I love.
Pissing off consumers is not how you improve a social media website. If your goal is to monetize it, you should be more careful with how you aggregate and expose our collective information. Just because I "liked" one post written by a writer doesn't mean I like their entire blog.
Maybe you should make a separate subscribe button so you can understand the difference between us liking a single post as opposed to us liking an entire blog. Even people who don't like me share what I write once in a while because they found it useful on a specific occasion.
I want that box off of my profile page. Seriously...
UPDATE with Lori's help: Click the little edit pencil, then change the setting to "only me" at the bottom of the new page that opens up across from the little edit pencil. Poof be visibility by others gone. :-)

Carolyn, I agree with your comment about a separate subscription button. I'm going to check this out for myself. Thanks for your post to bring it to our attention.
They sure do keep messing with us don't they>??? I surely don't need all the "likes" on my profile page...it would be 10 pages long! LOL
There goes the switch again...
C Tann ~ I am sorry....I would think if you go to edit my settings you would be able to remove that...I don't have that on mine...so I would suspect if you remove one of the boxes it replaced it might go away....
Josee Marie, you are very welcome. I left 40 groups I was inactive in and "liked" because a person I liked invited me to join and I poked around for a hot minute there never to return again. Now I am thinking I will use the "share this" button or paste specific links personally rather than "like" a post.
LOL@ Deborah. I like a lot of stuff on a whim so this is a disaster in the making for people who impulsively click that button.
Melodious, my love, my switch is flipped big time. I just removed the entire "causes" application and destroyed my Sorority gaming account because most of my impulse clicks are in support of my house sisters (LOL).
Lori, I will go experiment with removing stuff. I removed people's ability to tag/log me into places last night and woke up with that blasted box staring at me.
C Tann,
Ok....I think I got it figured out...guess I was still a bit sleepy. I do have one. Go to the right corner of the box and click the little icon....it will give you the option to change your visibility settings....go to see my interests and other pages....hit custom tab and set it to only me. I think that will work...but it seems that if you do that your pics etc on the side go away...
Lori, the silver lining to this is the fact that I have just discovered 114 "authorized applications" in a drop down table that need to be "destroyed" (LOL). There appear to be a lot of companies that have access to our info if you click a link your friends leave you to share a hug or a smile. I am whacking away at them. I'm the delete queen this morning. :-)
Thanks for the heads up. I have removed almost all the applications, how the heck did they get there? I don't click on anything, LOL. Don't even play Farmville anymore because it was a big waste of my time. I got lost in it!
Lori, the change visibility didn't work... I changed it to "only me" logged out, logged in and it was still there for hubby's account to view. I put the "my interests" back to "friend of friends." I want that box removed and shall be experimenting with every drop down table and setting before I e-mail them asking for instructions to whack it off my profile. I would hate to have to sit there and un-like everything... Making people do that is stupid. Why can't they just add a simple remove item link that we don't have to hunt for?
Andrea, I've discovered games that I do not play there. Hmm... I can't remember if I did or did not click a link. Bummer... :-(
C Tann,
OK...why don't you check out mine and see if you see my likes....I do still see yours. Maybe it was my explanation....we obviously still have work to do....
I'm on FB but have never been a big fan....
Lori figured out how to get it off of her profile page so please treat me like a person who needs Facebook dummy guide instructions and teach me how to remove this. I want to get back to enjoying vacation and go see my Mom, Dad and Granny (LOL).
C Tann,
Yeah! You did it! If you would take a moment and post to the group facebook fanatics I would love to feature it there in case anyone else has the same problem....
Lori, I shall post it there.
Susie, it's fun up to a point (LOL). Love that black hat, girlfriend! :-)
Oooo....I saw that too and didn't LIKE it either! I'm heading over there to edit that. :o)
Boy that b#tch switch is very touchy isn't it? I am on my way to edit. I hadn't noticed it... but if it pisses you off, it can't be good. How are you lovey?
Ann, why can't they just say - hey, this new thing is availale if you want it?
Susan, I am having a blast with the wee people. Will post a new YouTube in a couple of hours so you can see what we see. :-)
Maybe they need a 'Love' button and a 'Dislike' button to go with the 'Like' button...
LOL @ Lane. :-)
